Transforming Communities

Meri is from a community in Andamarca region in Peru. During one of our mission visits, we were reading to her older brother a book used in our Quechua Wanca literacy program. Well, Meri was next to her brother and was listening attentively. She then realized it was in her own language: Wanca. Then she took the book from her brother and she started to read. She said ‘This is so nice, I’m going to learn to read it too so I can bring it to school to show it to my friends. I’ve never seen a book in my own language!’ Meri continued to read very excitedly, looking at the illustrations and exclaimed ‘we have these animals too, and these birds!


Many tribal people are illiterate and vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. Your gift provides one year of literacy training for one person.
